Cinema Uses Volunteer Ninjas to Silence Rude Moviegoers

Posted on 00:00 by Unknown
Unless you want to be confronted by a group of ninjas, you don’t want to break the code of conduct at London’s Prince Charles Cinema. They won’t run a katana through you or use throwing stars, but they will pop out of nowhere and give you a stern warning.

Invisible Cinema Ninjas, now there’s a cool concept! Well, they’re not really ninjas trained in the deadly arts, but really just volunteers dressed in all-black Lycra suits called “Morphsuits”. They’re offered free tickets by the Prince Charles Cinema, in London, and have the task of keeping an eye out for any misconduct from moviegoers, during screenings. “The ‘Cinema Ninjas’ may sound ludicrous, but they have been a real success in clamping down on those ruining films for everyone else with inconsiderate behavior,” says Paul Vickery, head of public relations for the theater. “Like every cinema, we were irritated and upset by the minority of people running films for everyone else.”

Gregor Lawson, founder of Morphsuits, said the idea for this wacky project was inspired by Facebook fans of the company who discussed using the stealthy outfits to dress up as ninjas. He decided it was a wonderful marketing idea, and soon struck a deal with Prince Charles Cinema. It was supposed to be a short trial run, but the idea was apparently so successful that the cinema doesn’t want to put an end to it.

The idea behind these stealthy cinema ninjas is very simple. They position themselves in the darkest places of the cinema, and whenever they hear a cell phone ringing, someone talking loudly or doing anything that might threaten to ruin the movie experience for anybody else, they spring into action and remind the culprit they need to act respectfully. Adbul Stagg, a visitor caught taking out a cell phone at the start of a movie, said that when he was suddenly confronted by two cinema ninjas, it was “pretty terrifying at first,” but eventually got a good laugh and realized he was being a distraction.

Chinese Festival Organizers Create Human Zoo for Beggars

Posted on 00:30 by Unknown

Beggars at a religious festival in Nanchang, southern China, have been ordered to either stay in specially-built metal cages or risk being removed from the city, in an attempt to stop them from harassing visitors.
Living in a country where begging is a very lucrative business, I know what it’s like to constantly be disturbed by various characters asking for money (not food, money), but what these Chinese festival organizers did is a bit extreme. According to a Nanchang official, in recent years the number of beggars turning up for the local religious festival has increased to a point where they’re actually making temple visitors uncomfortable with their lamenting and pleading for some pocket change. So this year, to make sure everyone attending the festivities will be left alone, they decided to separate the hundreds of beggars in small metal cages around the festival grounds, where people can still give donations if they wish, but without being followed around and nagged while they’re on a day out with their family. Organizers did point out that the beggars in this pop-up human zoo entered their cages voluntarily and that no one is actually forcing them to beg for a living…

“The beggars are quite comfortable in their cages, people send them food and water as gifts. In a way it is better for them there than having to find a place on the busy streets,” festival organizers said.” The beggars can leave whenever they like but they have to leave the city too, they can’t go into the fair,’ they added. As you can imagine, this unusual way to keep beggars at bay attracted the wrath of human rights activists. “Do they want people to believe the region has no poor people and just put on a good show? These people need help. We should not be allowing them to be locked away in cages. These people are human beings too,” one said, while another commented “They are treating them like zoo animals. What will they have to do next – tricks for their food? This is nothing but public humiliation!”

Although organizers say the measure was taken for their own good, many Nanchang festival visitors said they were horrified by the sight of beggars sticking their hands out through the metal bars. The cages are reportedly so small that adults can’t even stand up in them, but judging from the photos they are just separated from festival goers by metal railings.

World’s Smelliest Man Hasn’t Bathed in 38 Years!!!

Posted on 06:38 by Unknown

A lot of people can’t imagine going through a day without taking at least one shower, but 66-year-old  Kailash Singh, from India, hasn’t taken a bath in over 38 years, and says he’s happier than a lot of people who wash their bodies every day.
But what can possibly make a man give up the daily ritual of bathing? Kailash says he told the decision in 1974, shortly after he got married, hoping this would help him have a son. He claims it was priest who guaranteed him a prized son if he followed his advice not to wash or cut his hair. Now, over 38 years later, Kailash Singh is probably the world’s smelliest man, has 6-foot-long dirty dreadlocks and is father to seven daughters and not a single son. despite having been failed by his religious guidance, the old man still doesn’t want to wash his body, and says only a son could change his mind. Although stranger things have happened, fathering a son at 66, with a 60-year-old wife is very unlikely.

Perhaps things wouldn’t be as serious if Kailash Singh lived in a more moderate climate and had a less physically-demanding job, but he lives in the hills near the holy city of Varanasi, where he works up a sweat tending to cattle in heat that often reaches 47 degrees Celsius. As you can imagine, his wife, Kalavati Devi, has had a tough time getting used to the smell. She claims they’ve tried everything to convince him to give up on his vow, including threatening not to sleep in the same bed with him, but in the end she was the first to give in. Kailash’s family once tried to force him to take a bath in a nearby river, but he fought them all off and ran away, saying he would rather die than bathe. Singh’s daughter says she can’t understand how her father goes through a summer day without bathing, when she takes at least two showers.

85-Year-Old Vietnamese Man Hasn’t Cut His Hair in 70 Years

Posted on 00:00 by Unknown

85-year-old Nguyen Van Chien, from Vietnam’s southern province of Tien Giang, hasn’t had a haircut since he was in the 12th grade, 70 years ago. As a result, his hair now 4-meters-long and weight 2 kilograms.
Even as a young boy, Nguyen Van Chien liked to let his hair grow long. He would braided it into a bun on top of his head to keep it from interfering with his daily activities, but one day, while he was in the 12th grade, his teachers advised him to cut his hair. He took their advice, but as soon as he got a haircut, he started experiencing a strange pain that not even painkillers could make go away. Before he cut his hair the man had had no health problems, not even a common flu, so he decided to let his hair grow, and never cut it again. It’s been 70 years since he made the decision, and now his “dragon tail”, as he calls his hair measured around 4 meters long and weighs over 2 kilograms.

Although Nguyen Van Chien is determined to never cut his hair again, it has caused him some inconveniences throughout the years. As the dragon tail grew, even washing it became an issue because it took so long to dry that he started getting headaches, colds and dizziness, so he decided to stop washing it as well. For the last 30 years, the Vietnamese Buddhist has never washed his hair. Instead, to combat the itchiness of the scalp, he rubs oil at the base of the hair, and rinses his head with water, careful not to wet too much of his “tail”. He also has problems moving around and gardening with over 2 kg of hair on his head, but he’s not considering cutting it again.

But the hair isn’t the only thing that makes this Vietnamese gentleman special. At 85 years of age, Nguyen Van Chien has an enviable health, and is able to read and cross a piece of thread through a needle without using glasses. He’s also able to perform exhausting tasks like chopping wood and working in his vegetable garden. The secret to his well-being is sometimes attributed to his long hair, while others say it’s his fruit and vegetable-only menu, or the fact that he only eats once a day, at noon. Whatever it is, this guy is doing something right.

While his dragon tail is certainly impressive, it’s quite short compared to the hair of Tran Van Hay, also from Vietnam. His locks were over 6 meter long and weighed over 10 kilos. Sadly, he died two years ago, at the age of 79.

Top 10 Countries With Female Soldiers

Posted on 06:21 by Unknown
There have been some very famous female warriors in history, such as Boudicca; who led a fierce resistance to Roman rule in England, The Trung Sisters; who led an all-female army against Chinese occupation of Vietnam in the 1st century AD, St Joan of Arc; who led the entire forces of France against the English at age 17 in the 15th Century and Septima Zenobia; who ruled Syria from 250 to 275 AD and was the scourge of Rome. Therefore, it seems strange that it took modern armies so long to officially allow females to serve in combat alongside their male counterparts. Nevertheless, women now play crucial roles in the armed forces of many nations and here are ten interesting facts about countries that recognise the value and valour of female soldiers.

1)      The United States of America
Women have served in the US Military since 1775 but their early roles consisted of support roles such as nurses, seamstresses, cooks and cleaners; roles which were not included amongst uniformed personnel until relatively recently ( in the 20th Century). However, females now serve in 91% of US Army occupations and account for 14% of the active Army. Furthermore, assignment policy changes introduced in 2012 mean that a further 14 000 positions closer to the frontline are now available to women.

2)      The United Kingdom
There are over 187 000 people serving in the British Armed Forces and around 17 and a half thousand of them are women, with 3760 female officers. In 2008, around a fifth of the service personnel in Afghanistan were female and many served in frontline roles. However, women are not permitted to engage in roles which involve close combat where the main purpose is to engage and kill the enemy. Nevertheless, the guerrilla tactics of opposing forces in many modern theatres of war dictate that no matter which roles women play, they are often in extreme danger the moment they leave their base camps.

3)      Russia
Women have fought alongside men in the Soviet and Russian military forces in various conflicts and in 2002 100 000 women from a total number of almost one million serving Russian combatants were female. In World War I, the Women’s Battalion of Death recruited members between the ages of 13 and 25 and fought in the June Offensive against German forces in 1917. In World War II, over 800 000 women fought in the Russian military, many of them in frontline roles as snipers, aviators, machine gunners, tank drivers and medics. 200 000 Soviet women were decorated in the conflict, and 89 received The Hero of the Soviet Union award; the highest military award available. Amongst these recipients of the most coveted Soviet award was Maria Raskova; a sublimely skilled and courageous aviator.

4)      Germany
Women were first officially enlisted into the Bundeswehr; the German Military, in 2001. Although only 244 women joined in the first year, there are now over 17 000 serving females, and they account for around 9% of the entire German forces. However, German women did serve in the military during World War II in auxiliary units in the Navy, Air Force and Army.

5)      Israel
Israel is the only nation on Earth which has a mandatory military service requirement for women and females have been a part of the Israeli Armed Forces since before the state was officially founded. 33% of current Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are female and 51% of officers. Furthermore, equality legislation introduced in 2000 means that 92% of all roles are open to women and females can now be found in around 70% of positions. In 2011, Orna Barbivai became the first female Major-General of the IDF.

6)      Sri Lanka
The Sri-Lanka Army Women’s Corp was founded in 1979 and was originally an unarmed support unit formed to aid the regular army. Thus, the roles of women in the corps included nursing, clerical work, communications, mechanics, doctors and technicians. However, after hostilities began in Sri Lanka in 1987, members of the Corps were allowed to serve as Army Instructors and by the last phase of the hostility female units were involved in direct combat missions.

7)      Sweden
The Lottorna is the Swedish Women’s Voluntary Defence Service and is part of the Swedish Home Guard. It is named after the fictitious heroine of a poem by Johan Ludvig Runeberg and was founded in 1924. Women currently account for around 5% of Sweden’s Armed Forces.

8)      Poland
Women have officially served in the Armed Forces of Poland since 1988 and can be found serving in Land Forces, the Air Force and the Navy as well as other regular cadre corps and have recently served in Iraq and Darfur. Although females only account for around 1.5% of the current total Polish Armed Forces, there are have traditionally been few restrictions on the roles which females can fulfil. In World War II, Polish women made a massive contribution to the war effort: taking combat and intelligence roles in the resistance movement, where 50 000 females joined and 3000 lost their lives during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Meanwhile, 5000 women served in the regular armed forces during that conflict.

9)      Canada
Women first served with the Canadian Military as nurses in 1885 and almost 3000 served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps where they also received paramilitary training in case they were required for home guard duties. By the time of World War II, 45 000 women were recruited for military roles other than nursing and by the late 80s all military occupations were opened to females except submarine roles, although these were also opened up in 2000. Currently, 15 % of Canadian Armed Forces are female and 2% of combat troops are women.

10)   Libya- The Amazonian Guard
‘The Amazonian Guard’ was the name given to Muhammar Gadaffi’s elite group of all-female bodyguards. Formed in the early 1980s, Gadaffi reputedly preferred females for these dangerous roles because he thought that potential Arab assassins would baulk at the thought of firing upon women. Gadaffi usually travelled with a unit of 15 of these guards, who were highly trained in firearms and martial arts techniques and rather bizarrely, had to take a vow of chastity. In 1988 one member of the Amazonian Guards was killed whilst shielding the former Libyan President from an assassination attempt.

Man Spends Two Years Building Exact Titanic Replica from Scrap

Posted on 00:30 by Unknown

In what can only be described as a titanic effort, boat-model enthusiast Jason King, from England, has spent two and a half years building an exact 1:100 scale replica of the Titanic. The 40-year-old used all kinds of scrap materials, from old clockworks to broken VCRs and managed to finish his masterpiece on April 15, exactly 100 years after the real Titanic sunk.

Titanic buffs have built replicas of the famous boat before, but Jason King wanted his to be perfect, right down to the number of benches on its deck. To pull off his perfect 1:100 replica, the man actually bought 150 books on the Titanic and consulted every photo of the vessel he could find. Jason knew most people would never notice the tiny details, but he wanted to make sure no one could ever “pick holes in it”. So he painstakingly recreated every single part of the original Titanic to scale, right in hid home study. Although he admits he had some model experience behind him, the Titanic project still took him two and a half years to complete. But that actually kept him out of his wife’s way, so that made her happy.

What’s even more impressive about this -9-foot-long Titanic replica is that it’s actually made of scrap. For the hull of the boat Jason used scrap wood, and in replicating some of the tiny details, he made use of anything he could get his hands on, including clockworks, and VCR parts. The resourceful father-of-two ended up spending just £2,500 ($4,000) which is not really that much, considering the level of detail of his little Titanic. Jason King worked on his impressive model every day, and reckons that he put in about 25 hours a week tinkering with it, for the last two and a half years. He managed to finish it right on April 15, 100 years since the real Titanic sunk after colliding with an iceberg.

Although he has received very generous offers for his identical Titanic replica, the expert model-builder isn’t considering selling it. He doesn’t want to say he’ll never sell it, but for now, after two years of work he plans on enjoying it a little longer, and even considers keeping it in the family, as an heirloom.

Guy Fakes His Own Death to Make Girlfriend See Life Would Be Empty without Him

Posted on 06:12 by Unknown

In what may very well be the worst wedding proposal in history, a Russian man hired a whole film crew to stage a deadly car crash and see if the woman he wanted to marry really loved him to death.
Most people already know, or at least think they know the person they want to marry truly loves them, before they pop the big question, but 30-year-old Alexey Bykov, from Omsk, Russia, wanted to make absolutely sure. Instead of taking the easy route, like making his girlfriend Irina take a lie detector test, he decided to fake his own gruesome death to see what her reaction would be. So the young Russian hired a movie director, stuntmen, make-up artists, and even a script writer to stage a car crash in which he lost his life. They made sure everything looked as realistic as possible, by using crashed cars, smoke, ambulances and carnage, so the poor girl didn’t for a minute think she was the victim of a very creepy prank.

Once all the details of his plan were discussed with the film crew, Alexey arranged to meat Irina in a certain place, only when she arrived she found mangled cars and her beloved’s body lying on the road all covered in blood. A paramedic told her he was dead and she immediately broke into tears. Once the “romantic” prankster got the reaction he was waiting for, he got up from the pavement and proposed. You can imagine Irina’s reaction, can’t you? Well, although she admits at first she “almost killed him again, but for real this time”, in the end she accepted to be this crazy man’s wife for the rest of her life.
